District/State Honor Band Information
Students are encouraged to further their music education and personal growth by auditioning for various District and State level honor ensembles.
ECKMEA District Honor Band
Audition Registration: DUE by 4pm Friday October 4th, 2024
Audition Date: Saturday November 9th, 2024
Audition Location: Gardner Edgerton High School
ECKMEA District Mini-Convention Date: Friday December 6th, Saturday December 7th, 2024
ECKMEA District Mini-Convention Location: Blue Valley High School/Blue Valley West High School
Open to any enrolled band student (Gr. 9-12). This is a blind audition comprised of scales, excerpts, and sight reading. Schools from across the East Central district audition for this honor ensemble. Students selected will be placed in one of three bands - Red, Blue, or Gold. Red and Blue Band are comprised of students from 56A schools in the East Central District. Gold Band is comprised of the top students from the East Central District from all 1A-6A schools. Students that are selected for ECKMEA District Honor Band are eligible to audition for the KMEA All-State Ensembles in January. Students may also audition for the ECKMEA District Jazz Band. This is a separate audition from the concert audition. Please contact Mr. Maddux or Mr. Meiller directly if you are interested in auditioning for ECKMEA District Honor Band.
John Philip Sousa Honor Band
Audition Registration: DUE by 4pm Wednesday October 2nd, 2024
Audition Recordings: DUE by 11:59pm Wednesday October 16th, 2024
John Philip Sousa Honor Band Dates: Friday January 24th, Saturday January 25th, 2025
John Philip Sousa Honor Band Location: Lied Center of Kansas, Lawrence, KS
Open to any 9th grade band student. This is a middle level honor band comprised of students grades 6 - 9. Students who have participated in John Philip Sousa Honor Band in previous years are welcome to make a recording and send it to Mr. Maddux to upload for an audition for John Philip Sousa Honor Band.
